Traffic Investigators from the West Hollywood Sheriff's station are investigating the circumstances of a fatal hit and run traffic collision involving a white older model BMW sedan and a bicyclist. The incident took place at the intersection of Fountain Avenue and Gardner Street in the city of West Hollywood.
Preliminary information indicates the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Fountain Avenue when the white sedan traveling westbound on Fountain Avenue crashed with the bicyclist. The white sedan fled the scene westbound on Fountain Avenue. The bicyclist was transported to Cedars Sinai Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The white BMW sedan is expected to have a shattered windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The cause of the collision is still being investigated. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Traffic Investigators at West Hollywood Sheriff's station at 310-855-8850.
This fatal hit and run follows another when a 27-year-old woman and 23-year-old man killed a bicyclist in Clairemont earlier this year, investigators said.
San Diego residents Kamille Agustin and Anthony Phan turned themselves in to police on July 2nd in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash. It is believed that both struck 36-year-old Daniel West on Balboa Avenue near Interstate 805 on March 29 in separate vehicles. San Diego police Sgt. David Rozsa said the pair is then believed to have fled the scene.
Both were booked into jail on a charge of felony hit and run causing injury or death.
Investigators said that on the night of the crash, West was riding an e-bike when he exited the bicycle lane to make a left turn, crossing three westbound lanes of traffic. While making the move across the road, he was struck by two vehicles around 1:20 a.m.
Rozsa said neither Agustin nor Phan — driving a Dodge Charger and Mercedes E53, respectively — stopped to help.
A passing San Diego Fire-Rescue crew saw West on the road next to a damaged e-bike and stopped to help, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
West was taken to a hospital, where he died.
